Transience of Life

Sophia Lucke

The object I chose was an old, dried calabash, a type of pumpkin. I like how it looked and that it was rotten. I associated the object with the transience of life. In our society we fight against the reality of death, it is an inner war nourished by the fear of dying.
During the painting colour I used more and more colours to an extent that the calabash was not recognizable anymore. However it was still there - similar as death is always present, no matter how hard we try to cover it.
